ADVOCACY, NEWS AND CURRENT ISSUES:
The Children's Cause is a great place to learn more about national policy issues that affect research, health care, and follow-up services for cancer survivors.
Reuters Health provides consumer-friendly news on health issues. You can either click on "Health eLine" on the left menu bar to see the most recent health news, or click "search" at the top of the menu bar to search for specific terms.

GENERAL AND "GATEWAY" WEBSITES:
American Cancer Society: This site has a wealth of information on specific conditions, statistics, treatment options, medical updates, and so forth.
Association of Cancer Online Resources: This site has a great deal of information on specific diseases, clinical, trials, mailing lists, support resources, etc. Again, links to specific diseases are listed below, although we encourage you to look over the site on your own.
Brave Kids: Online resource for children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses and disabilities. Users can search by resource type (such as financial assistance, camps, support groups) and by disease or condition.
Cancer Profiler: The Cancer Profiler is a tool to help you better understand potential treatment options for leukemia. Users will need to register with the site (no charge) to access the tool, and take a short (15-20 minute) survey in order to get their potential treatment information. There is also a very helpful glossary.
CancerSource has extensive information for patients, and an excellent Drug Guide.
Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation: A great resource for families with a child affected by cancer. Treatment, support, advocacy, legislative updates, and a great deal of publications can be found here, as well as links to websites specifically geared to kids, teens, and siblings.
MedlinePlus is a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health. This wonderful site includes information on various health topics, an index of prescription and over-the-counter medications, a medical encyclopedia, dictionary, news, directories, and other resources.
National Cancer Institute: This is an extremely well-organized site with information on conditions, treatment, prevention, causes, support and resources, clinical trials and literature, and a comprehensive dictionary.
National Children's Cancer Society: Again, this website has a huge variety of resources and assistance to offer. This page in particular has a listing of cancer resources such as chat rooms / message boards, clinical trials, financial assistance, survivorship and health insurance and legal information.
Outlook: A wonderful resource for "life beyond childhood cancer". Primary topics include insurance and financial issues, health issues and concerns, school and job issues, and there is a very large bank of resources.
People Living With Cancer is the patient information website for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Here you will find coping resources, clinical trial information, strategies for managing side effects, "Ask the ASCO Expert" series, the latest cancer news, and much more.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: This is the gateway to the leukemia, lymphoma and myelodysplastic information at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

American Cancer Society: Click on "My Community", type your city or ZIP code, and then click on "Local Resources". This will allow you to search a database of support.
Amgen Pharmaceuticals can sometimes reimburse you for the cost of the following medications: Aranesp, Neulasta, and Neupogen. You can also call Amgen at 800-272-9376 to get more information.

Clayton Dabney Foundation for Kids with Cancer offers grants to families for gifts, last wishes, and financial assistance.
First Hand Foundation helps families of children with health problems.
If you are taking Rituxan, manufactured by Genentech, check their Single Point of Contact website for information on reimbursement.
GlaxoSmithKline has a patient assistance program for people taking Bexxar, Leukeran, Myleran and Zofran.

National Children's Cancer Society
Novartis Pharmaceuticals may be able to provide reimbursement if you are taking Gleevec. Call 877-GLEEVEC (877-453-3832).
Partnership for Prescription Assistance is a list of pharmaceutical companies offering prescription reimbursement.
Ortho-Biotech may be able to provide reimbursement for patients taking Leustatin or Procrit.
Rx4Illinois is a program that connects qualified, low-income people with discount prescription drugs, direct from the pharmaceutical manufacturer. Make sure you check out their resources page for other assistance.
RxAssist offers a comprehensive database of patient assistance programs, as well as practical tools, news, and articles.
Schering-Plough, manufacturer of Intron A, has a patient assistance and support program.
State Pharmaceutical Assistance Programs
Together Rx Access card was launched in January 2005, and could give people without health insurance the chance to save 25-40% on prescriptions. It is only for legal U.S. residents who lack public or private prescription-drug coverage, are ineligible for Medicare, and who earn less than $30,000 per year (for individuals) or less than $60,000 per year (for a family of four).
NeedyMeds has lists of patient assistance programs offered by pharmaceutical companies
This section of OncoLink has great information on insurance, billing, and other financial information, along with a glossary of terms.
Wyeth Oncology has a Patient Assistance program where patients can receive certain products, such as Mylotarg, free of charge.

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT RESOURCES AND PERSONAL STORIES:
Discussion lists and Support and information resources from the Association of Cancer Online Resources. For the discussion lists, you'll want to search by specific type of leukemia, such as ALL, instead of simply "leukemia".
Brave Kids message boards for parents and for kids. The boards are for general cancer posts, not specific to leukemia, lymphoma, or MDS, although topics within the board are certainly appropriate.
Set up your own website at Caring Bridge and keep your friends and family updated on your treatment progress.
ChemoAngels provides support for people with cancer
Club Brave Kids is set up specifically for kids who are dealing with cancer - the patients themselves and their siblings.

SPECIFIC RESOURCES FOR YOUNG ADULTS WITH CANCER:
Beyond the Cure is sponsored by the National Children's Cancer society, and has information about the late effects of cancer treatment for those diagnosed with cancer as children or teenagers.
Planet Cancer sponsors retreats for 25-40 year-olds with cancer, and also offers a clearinghouse for support groups, camps and informal gatherings geared toward young adults with cancer.
Teens Living With Cancer is a fantastic website sponsored by Melissa's Living Legacy Foundation and Children's Oncology Group.
Group Loop is an online support group for teenagers with cancer.
Fertile Hope helps cancer patients deal with fertility issues associated with cancer treatment.
Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults offers support, education, and resources, including a free guide book for young adults facing cancer.
