APPLICATION INFORMATION The Leukemia Research Foundation is currently funding New Investigator grants only.
- The amount is up to $100,000
- The grant period is one year
- Funding cycle begins on July 1, 2008
Applicants are not required to be U.S. citizens. Research projects undertaken outside the U.S. will be considered. ELIGIBILITY
- New Investigators are considered to be within seven (7) years of their first independent position. Years as a resident physician, fellow physician, or post-doctoral fellow are considered to be training years. Questions regarding eligibility should be directed to our Research Grants Administrator.
- Adjustments for career interruptions can be made. These could include but are not limited to, family leave, military service, major illness or injury. It is the responsibility of the applicant to point out and document such interruptions.
- Investigators with a research associate, research assistant or similar position, must include a letter from the department chair confirming their position is independent. In addition, the applicant must state how their research is independent from others at their institution.
- Applicants with an NIH KO8 or K23 are NOT excluded.
Ineligible:
- NIH RO1 funding, VA Merit Award or equivalent. Funding from other national foundations, career development awards (ACS, ASH, etc.), any outside funding that is in excess of $125,000 per year, excluding startup funds.

FUNDING SPECIFICS
- The Leukemia Research Foundation's policy does not provide funds for capital equipment (i.e. equipment purchases in excess of $5,000). Any request for exception to this policy must detail clearly the specific need of the capital equipment for the proposed research project.
- The Leukemia Research Foundation does not provide salary support for the principal investigator.
- Using funds for research travel is permitted but should not exceed $1,000. This money is intended only to enhance the study. Travel to scientific conferences is not provided.
- All other support for the project must be clearly detailed including all sources for the requested and related projects. Clearly indicate funding overlap.
- All previous support from the Leukemia Research Foundation must be clearly stated; please list the title of the project, period(s) of support, and amount of award.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION
- Deadline for submission is 12:00 am (midnight) Central Standard Time, on Friday, February 15, 2008.
- Applications should be e-mailed to: Grants@LRFMail.org. All applicants will receive a receipt via e-mail when their application is received.
- Grants will only be accepted electronically; hard copies of grant applications will not be accepted.

APPLICATION SPECIFICS
- Document format should be single spaced with a 12 point font used throughout. The paper size should be 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches.
- A concise one paragraph description of the project is to be included in the application as a separate page. This paragraph should be in extreme lay terminology, appropriate for an audience without scientific training. Explain terms which cannot be simplified.
- Your PDF file cannot exceed 10 MB in size. If it is larger than 10 MB please make arrangements with Linda Kabot, Research Grants Administrator, to accept it.
- Application label should read as follows: LastName, FirstName, MiddleInitial. For example: Doe, Jane, N.pdf
- You must use the 2008-09 application cover sheet. This form must be filled out in its entirety for an application to be accepted and assigned for review.
- The 2008 Medical Advisory Board will not consider applications which are incomplete.

NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS
All completed applications will be reviewed by the Leukemia Research Foundation's independent Medical Advisory Board in late May. The Foundation approves applications for funding based on the recommendation of this panel. Notification will be mailed to applicants by June 30, 2008. Results will not be available prior to this date. Leukemia Research Foundation reviewers do not prepare written reviews.

OTHER
It is the intention of the Leukemia Research Foundation to fund new, unfunded projects and not to provide continuing funding of ongoing projects. Support is meant to enable an investigator to initiate and develop a project sufficiently to obtain continuing funding from national agencies.

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
- The final project report should be received within 30 days of completion of the project.
- Grantees are required to complete the Results Form and e-mail the Foundation with a brief scientific summary, a brief lay summary, and a list of any resulting publications.
